- Logged three hits, including a pair of doubles in Thursday’s series-opening, 8-1 win
Commodore Notes
Vanderbilt recorded a 4-0 week, capped by a three-game series sweep of No. 19 Kentucky to close the regular season and lock up the No. 6 seed in the SEC Tournament … The Dores erupted for 14 runs and sent 17 batters to the plate in the third inning while setting a school record with 19 walks in a 21-4 victory against Middle Tennessee on Tuesday night at Hawkins Field … Vandy drew six walks in the third inning during a night in which it broke a 67-year old school record with 19 walks … The 21 runs matched a Hawkins Field record and were the most since VU totaled as many a season ago against the Blue Raiders in Murfreesboro … Vandy starter Drake Fellows was superb and the offense continued its upsurge as the Commodores took down No. 19 Kentucky, 8-1, in the series opener on Thursday night at Hawkins Field … Fellows did not allow a hit until the fourth inning and permitted just three on the evening while holding the Wildcats’ high-octane offense in check … The right-hander, who lowered his ERA to 3.81, induced 16 ground outs to just one fly out … VU reliever Zach King was masterful and the offense provided an early jump following a three-plus hour lightning delay to defeat No. 19 Kentucky, 5-1, and secure the series late Friday night … The Commodores struck for three runs including a two-run home run from Connor Kaiser in the first inning and were able to ride six-plus scoreless innings from King to secure their fifth victory in the last six games … Vanderbilt overcame a three-run deficit, scoring six times in the seventh inning to blast past No. 19 Kentucky, 9-6 in the regular-season finale and secure the three-game sweep on Saturday afternoon … The Commodores sent all nine batters to the plate in the seventh, taking the lead on a two-run single from Philip Clarke before adding an explanation point on Stephen Scott’s mammoth two-run home run … Vandy enters next week’s league tournament as the six-seed and will square off against 11-seed Texas A&M in Tuesday’s single-elimination opener … First pitch is slated for 9:30 a.m. CT on the SEC Network … The winner will face three-seed Georgia on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. CT.
