Player of the Week Nominee

JJ Bleday, RF, 6-3, 205, Panama City Beach, Fla.

Weekly totals: 3G/3GS, 9 AB, 2 R, 4 H, 1-2B, 1 RBI

Led Vanderbilt with an impressive .643 on-base percentage in three games last week in California including a pair of Top 15 victories at the Dodger Stadium College Baseball Classic.

Reached base nine times in three games while recording four hits and scoring a pair of runs.

Finished 2-for-3 with a double and RBI while reaching base four times in Saturday’s 6-3 win against No. 11 UCLA. Bleday added a run while reaching base twice in a 7-4 victory against No. 8 TCU.



Pitcher of the Week Nominee

Patrick Raby, RHP, 6-3, 230, Knoxville, Tenn.

Weekly totals: 1G/0GS, 1-0 W-L, 5.0IP, 3H, 1R/0ER, 3BB, 8K

Struck out eight TCU hitters in 5.0 scoreless innings while leading Vanderbilt to a 7-4 victory against the No. 8 Horned Frogs at Dodger Stadium.

Picked up the victory in relief while limiting TCU hitters to a .188 batting average while not allowing an earned run.



Freshman of the Week Nominee

Jayson Gonzalez, 3B, 6-2, 205, Covina, Calif.

Weekly totals: 3G/3GS, 11 AB, 3 R, 4 H, 1-HR, 5 RBI, 2 BB

Helped Vanderbilt to a pair of Top 15 wins at the Dodger Stadium College Baseball Classic over the weekend while hitting .364 with five RBIs in three games this week.

Making his return to California, the freshman posted a .462 on-base percentage.

Gonzalez belted a solo home run and accounted for all three of Vanderbilt’s RBIs on Wednesday. He also scored a pair of runs and reached base twice in a 6-3 victory at No. 11 UCLA and drove in two runs in a 7-4 win against No. 8 TCU on Sunday.



Commodore Notes

No. 15 Vanderbilt went 2-1 while picking up a pair of Top 15 victories in California over the weekend … The Commodores recorded a 3.46 ERA while limiting Long Beach State, No. 11 UCLA and No. 8 TCU to a .237 batting average … Vandy held Long Beach State hitless through six innings before a three-run barrage in the seventh proved to be the difference in a 4-3 defeat at Blair Field on Wednesday night … The Commodores jumped ahead three runs after five innings, thanks to a two-run single and solo home run from Jayson Gonzalez … The Covina, Calif., native produced three RBIs and finished 2-of-3 at the plate … The Dirtbags pushed one across in the sixth without a hit but broke through an inning later … Vanderbilt jumped out to a four-run advantage and was able to tack on some insurance late, defeating No. 11 UCLA, 6-3, behind another strong start from Drake Fellows on Friday night at Jackie Robinson Stadium … The right-hander improved to 2-0, scattering six hits while allowing three runs and fanning a season-best nine batters … The Dores were held to a season-low four hits but took advantage of nine walks and two UCLA errors … Tyler Brown tossed the final two frames, allowing three hits and a walk while striking out four … The Bruins brought the winning run to the plate with two outs in the ninth before Brown sat down leadoff hitter Daniel Amarai for his first career save … Vanderbilt jumped on No. 8 TCU early and reliever Patrick Raby worked out of key jams to help lead the Commodores to a 7-4 victory on Sunday afternoon at Dodger Stadium … The Commodores sent eight hitters to the plate in the first, finding the scoreboard on a Pat DeMarco single through the left side … Four batters later, Connor Kaiser sent a two-out, two-run single into center, plating JJ Bleday (single) and DeMarco … Patrick Raby tossed five innings, scattering three hits while allowing one unearned run alongside three walks and eight strikeouts to earn the win … The win vaulted Vandy to 12-4 overall and 5-1 against D1Baseball.com Top 25 opponents … The Dores return home for the first time in two weeks on Wednesday, hosting Eastern Kentucky at 6:30 p.m. … Vandy opens SEC play next weekend with three games at Mississippi State.
