Re: Bryan Reynolds now leading the NL in batting average

Sporting a .338 average, just ahead of Christian Yelich (.333) and Jeff McNeil (.332). Despite how lousy the Pirates are, this will be really interesting to watch for the last month and a half of the season. Auric, going into tonight's games, he's actually leading all of MLB: MLB Hitting There's an...

Re: Sports Illustrated story about Buehler

What a well-written and well-researched article. There aren't many articles this detailed anymore and we don't have many writers like Verducci anymore.

Re: "Ocean City's Tom Finnegan commits to national champion Vanderbilt baseball program"

I love the kid's closing quote - "They are all just dudes there.” The team should put that on a practice jersey - "We're all just dudes here."

Re: Son of former Braves' player Andruw Jones commits to Vandy

Nice to have the son of a future hall-of-famer commit to us. Once Andruw makes it to the Veterans Committee, who will rightly recognize him as the greatest defensive center fielder of all time, he'll get the 75% vote. The writers who vote every year focus most of their votes on offensive power. Occa...

Re: Can one of you explain this to me?

JJ Bleday is a perfect example of this. He'll start off playing a few games in the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League and will probably be playing with Advanced A Jupiter by season's end. He'll most likely end up in AA by the end of next year. I can see him on the same trek as Bryan Reynolds where he is...

2019 Commodores in the Pros

I didn't see anything on the VU website for this year. What follows is as of Friday July 12. (My apologies for the lack of spacing. On my WORD document it looks fine but when I cut and paste to this site it gets messed up.) Name, Level, League, Team 2007 David Price MLB Red Sox 2008 Ryan Flaherty AA...

Re: Next Commodore to make MLB debut?

Over in AAA Rochester Zander Wiel leads the team in Runs, Home Runs, and RBIs. Last night he was 4-4 with 7 RBIs. The Twins are having a great year so at best Zander is either an injury call-up this year or a September call-up.

Next Commodore to make MLB debut?

How about Sam Selman who was drafted in the 2nd round all the way back in 2012 and has yet to be called up? He signed a minor league deal with the Giants this year and started in AA. After seven innings he was promoted to AAA. In 33 innings pitched in AAA he has 54 Ks and only 9 BBs. His WHIP is .67...

Re: VU Baseball Has Come A Long Way

Call me crazy but I think I remember sitting on top of that Memorial Gym overhang near left field back in the early 80's. Anyone else recall doing that? Or maybe I just climbed up there after a few beers and then was told to come down. Yes, back in the days of a drinking age of 18. Speaking of bring...

Was happy to see Corbin show some big-time emotion after the Gatorade bath. Kinda had that Phil Mickelson at the Masters jump thing going.

I know it was not in the post-season but I'll take sweeping Florida during the regular season and outscoring them 34-6 as payback.

Re: Pitchers for CWS finals

We've used pitchers frequently in relief on short rest. Most of you remember the last time Vanderbilt played Michigan in the NCAA Baseball Tournament. As far as starters, I don't think pitching on the fifth day after throwing 102 pitches is much of a stretch. During the season we often started a gu...

Re: best comeback win for Vandy ever?

Several years ago, Vandy was behind UT 8-5, bottom of the ninth, last game of the regular season, needed a win to go to Hoover for the first time in several years. After the walk off Grand Slam it was 9-8. I believe many think that heroic was the spark of the beginning of our current run. All of th...

Re: "Rocker's freshman season ranks as Vandy's best"

Say Freshmen are eligible for the MLB draft, if I'm a GM there is a good argument to go with David Price. That 2.86 ERA and 92 strikeouts in 69 innings look pretty good for a Freshman.

Will Gordon finally playing like the 7th ranked golfer in the country. He is -5 after nine holes. The Vandy team playing the front nine today is the Vandy team capable of winning it all.

Re: Mercy Rule

And the SEC needs to do what some of the minor leagues are now doing - if the game goes into extra innings put a runner on 2nd base at the start of the inning. Last night's late game was ridiculous.
