Re: Tennessean: "Kumar Rocker's encore, Vols rivalry, Omaha return: What we missed in Vanderbilt baseball season"

I'm as big a Vandy homer as we have, however, based on the non-conference play, I don't know if we make Omaha. We were not scoring enough runs. This seems to be a common refrain from years gone by, we always seem to have the elite pitching but sometimes struggle with the bat against elite pitching.

Re: "J Bleday prepares for trip to Jupiter in advance of spring training"

I'm looking forward to watching him live in the Florida State League when he heads to the Tampa Bay area for games (Tampa, Lakeland, Clearwater, Dunedin, Bradenton). Hopefully he tears it up and by the end of the season he is in AA Jacksonville.

That must have been on a Roger Waters solo album. He usually has an ax to grind about something.

Re: "Braves prospect Phil Pfeifer dominating Australian Baseball League"

Nice find Good2bGold. Would love to see Pfeiffer get called up to the big league club some time next year. I've been pulling for him ever since he worked through the issues he had at Vandy.

Nice draft preview video on Austin Martin

Jim Callis has him going #1 overall to the Tigers. If that does happen it means the VandyBoys probably had a good year!

Re: VandyBoys added to 40 man rosters to avoid Rule 5 Draft

I see that baseball-reference.com now includes collegiate and summer league stats (if available). Here is Ben Bowden's page: https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=bowden000ben He was tremendous at AA, allowing only 3 runs on 8 hits in 25 2/3 innings of relief; struck out 42 and...

VandyBoys added to 40 man rosters to avoid Rule 5 Draft

The following VandyBoys were added to their parent club's 40 man rosters which means the clubs thought enough of them to protect them from other teams drafting them in the Rule 5 Draft. Of course, if you are an elite prospect, this can be a bad thing because if you are selected in the Rule 5 Draft b...

Nice article by Vandy grad Tyler Kepner on Yaz' visit to Fenway. Kepner makes sure to get in a lot of Vandy quotes.

Re: September Call-Ups - Fulmer and Flaherty

Just curious, how does salary work for a guy like Flaherty? Does he get a prorated part of the season when he goes back and forth to the minors? Flaherty's $1mm salary is well over the major league minimum of @$550,000.00 so his pay doesn't change for being called up. If a minor leaguer with a sala...

13 VandyBoys currently on MLB rosters!

I think this is a record for us. In past years, or maybe even this year, we have had at one time or another 13 guys in the big leagues. However, I don't recall ever having 13 guys in the bigs at one time like we do now. With recent call-ups, the following 13 are all on active rosters: Price, Flahert...

September Call-Ups - Fulmer and Flaherty

Of course, Fulmer has been up and down all year with the White Sox. You have to love Ryan Flaherty. He keeps plugging away since his major league debut in 2012 after toiling in the minors for four years before that. Since his MLB debut he has pretty much been up and down between AAA and the majors e...

Where is our Coke Bottle?!

Okay, I'm venting, but after two national championships you would think we could get a collector Coke bottle somehow. I mean, c'mon, half the South collects Coke memorabilia (yes, I'm one of them) and we don't get a sniff. I just went to ebay and typed in "Vanderbilt Coke" in Sports Memora...

John Augenstein in US Amateur Quarterfinals

In the round of 16, 18th seed Augenstein hung on to beat 2nd seeded Ricky Castillo. After the first nine holes John was up four strokes but then proceeded to lose the next three holes to only be one stroke up. The two golfers halved the next six holes as John won 1 up. I can't imagine how tense it w...

Nice article on Yaz and his newfound power

One of the knocks on Yaz when he was drafted was the lack of power. I remember reading an article around that time that had a quote from his grandfather where Carl said he felt Mike would gain power as he progressed through the minor leagues. That is exactly what has happened. His home run total for...
