Re: Take deep breath, step back from ledge
If Stack wants a developers program, then he has to figure out how to put freshman players into games and situations where they will succeed. Other coaches seem to be able to do it. Otherwise, he will continue to lose large portions or all of his recruiting classes. It took this team 22 games this ...

Re: Malik Dia enters the portal
Not unless the coach leave can a player leave the school. That should be the rule because it not fair to the school and us fans I can't go that far. That's just crazy. I'd support having that sit out for a year rule reestablished, but people make mistakes, and these guys are kids not professionals ...

Re: Take deep breath, step back from ledge
While the NCAA didn't institute NIL, which they KNEW was coming for decades, they didn't do anything to regulate it or take care of s/a's who don't have a $100 mil future. They DID institute the portal, but handled it about as poorly as, well, you would expect them to. Both are here, and here to st...

Re: Take deep breath, step back from ledge
They must not care about basketball. Who know what they or thinking. Really? You've been watching Trey Thomas and Jordan Wright bust their butts and play their hearts out for the past 3-4 years and your conclusion is they don't care about basketball? Thomas was going to be buried on the bench behin...

Re: Vanderbilt Education
Very few should go into serious debt due to school or for the sake of a prestigious school name, as college debt can be crushing. Here's an example from this past year that I read, “I graduated in 1992 with $14,000 in loans. My balance is now up to $74,000 because of deferments and only paying the ...

Didn't see that one coming. Makes the Noah Shelby transfer all the more puzzling. Nah. Shelby was done and out the door. He was a top 100(ish) recruit considered a good get and probably didn't play 40 minutes the entire season. Whether or not that usage was deserved. Whether this is on Shelby or on...

Take deep breath, step back from ledge
Step back from the ledge, people. Firstly, and for the 10 billionth time: the portal and NIL were not voluntary moves by the NCAA. They would have been delighted to retain their previous power position. These changes were imposed by the courts including the Supreme Court of the United States who bas...

Re: Vanderbilt Education
My personal experience: I think Vanderbilt undergrad was like mental calisthenics. I did not specifically learn course content I couldn't have gotten at a lower cost school, but taking a philosophy class from Alistair McIntyre was challenging and stimulating in a way that the same class taught by a ...

Re: Jordan Wright
I have a question as to this point. Is there anything to prevent VU from putting him on academic scholarship for the second year of a grad program since he wouldn't be on the team any longer ? I don't know but if an athletic undergrad scholarship actually does preclude a grad school scholarship tha...

Re: Jordan Wright
If Wright doesn't come back it will be a huge shock. If he and Coach have such a great relationship it would be a sign that college basketball has zero loyality. For all Vanderbilt has done for the current team, I think he is back. By NCAA rule he has to be in enrolled with either 12 undergraduate ...

Re: ESPN's David Hale, Bill Connelly advocate for relegation (and mention Vanderbilt) in Q&A piece about realignment
I don't think relegation is a terrible idea. Its a merit based system where your performance dictates where you go and the revenue you get. Now, could it actually be executed given the sports outside of football? Very difficult. The NFL (and just about every other US pro sport) has found the opposi...

Re: ESPN's David Hale, Bill Connelly advocate for relegation (and mention Vanderbilt) in Q&A piece about realignment
IMO we’re already at risk of major college football becoming a regional sport. The best example I can think of is Major League Baseball going from “America’s Favorite Pastime” to being, at best, the third most popular sport in America. When the New York Yankees and a few other rich organizations ca...

Re: Dort and Dia ?
Dort is a freshman big man who got little playing time behind two upperclassmen, then was out with an injury just now coming back. Dia is also a freshman and although he has some good height, banging around in the low post will probably never be his strong suit. Both Dort and Dia got thrown in emerg...

Re: OT - NYT: A Fourth Alabama Player Was at a Deadly Shooting, in a Car Hit by Bullets
In the old days coaches would discipline players for exercising poor judgment. Guess those days are over Heck lance goulbirne got 4 games for a parking pass. Guess he’d have gotten the needle for doing what Brandon miller did. For the most part, Vanderbilt coaches have had a pretty firm handle on p...

Re: OT - NYT: A Fourth Alabama Player Was at a Deadly Shooting, in a Car Hit by Bullets
I believe I read in one of the AL.com articles that Miles asked Miller if the gun was loaded (or slang to that effect). If that is true, no more “ignorance” excuses. I remember reading the quote that Miles asked someone if the gun was loaded, and was told it was. But not sure it was Miller on the o...

Re: Should the NCAA Tournament be expanded?
I'm not a fan of expanded playoffs in football or basketball. No matter how big you make it, there will still be a bubble and still be teams who can claim to have been snubbed. Especially football. Yay, let's have an even more prolonged process to find out who gets stomped by Georgia or Alabama. It'...

My Theory of Stackhouse
I have to admit I was dusting off my pitchfork after the Alabama game. Not really about the loss, it was the postgame comments where he said in effect he was willing to lose a game on purpose to make a point to his players and change attitudes. Judging by the team's play after that, it would appear ...

Re: NCAA Tourney/Selection Thread
The NET is an interesting ranking system. I like the one from teamrankings.com that has Vandy ranked as 41 with a 95% chance of getting into the NCAA Tournament. I "like" it too, but just the other day someone here cited an analysis of which services were good at predicting the NCAA selec...
