Re: Ray Davis disses Nashville in KSR interview
Hell, most Nashvillians diss what significant parts of Nashville have become. Hence, the campaign theme of the leading vote getter in Thursday's mayoral election: "More 'Ville, Less Vegas!" There's not much to argue with in that short 23-second clip. He's talking about Lexington's single-m...

Re: FSU Athletics Going Private
Might as well just go ahead and spin athletics off. The disconnect with the mission of universities is only increasing. Not saying that student athletes shouldn't share in the proceeds they generate (which we discuss ad infinitum) but NIL and the portal have already made star athletes in the big 3 c...

Re: WAY OT: Memphis & Big 12 redux
Blake Toppmeyer weighs in with his vision of three 20-team super-conferences , which would add Clemson, Florida State, North Carolina and Pittsburgh to the SEC. If it HAS to be 20, I'd be okay with it except that I'd replace FSU with Va Tech. But PITT, you say? I think an occasional trip to Pittsbur...

Re: WAY OT: Memphis & Big 12 redux
With the breaking news that the Big Ten is now looking at adding Washington, Oregon, Cal, and Stanford, that would seem to guarantee the other three Pac-12 "Four Corners" schools joining the Big 12 and probably locking out Memphis. Of course, at the rate things are moving, maybe the Big 1...

WAY OT: Memphis & Big 12 redux
Yes, way off topic but it's still the Dog Days, so.... I can't help feeling sorry for the U of Memphis and its fans, always trying to get in the big leagues and always failing. I'd have to look at Wikipedia to refresh my memory of how many conferences they've been in already. Would the XII be any mo...

Re: Pete Thamel: Sources: Rice targeting VU Asst. AD Tommy McClelland for AD; deal appears close to done
The new logo is a university-wide initiative. Some universities use the same logo for the institution and their sports teams; some don't. And I notice, in some of the after-practice videos Brent has posted, that some of the coaches' gear has a Star V logo with the new wider V. I see some merchandise...

Realizing that time is short, trips are expensive and you may not get to choose your time off BUT it would be way cool if you were able to get home and present it to him yourself during the Sept. 2 Salute to Service game below. Or maybe next year's Salute to Service game, or whenever you do get back...

Re: Typical UT fans: setting themselves up for disappointment again
Meanwhile, VU fans are just Wishin' and Hopin' to get to a bowl game -- ANY bowl game. SEC doesn't have a tie-in to Shreveport this year, so maybe a triumphant return to Birmingham, Alabama's Magic City!? Definitely no delusion here. Do you have any reason to exist other than just to be a pitiful t...

Re: Practice #1 of fall camp is complete
It's the tidbits of info that always interest me. For example, they've begun color-coding the support staff (trainers, nutritionists, etc.) because as CCL said, he and the other coaches need to know where they are when their specific expertise is needed. Now they can spot them instantly.

Re: Don't look now but...
UT's NIL compensation obviously is higher than Vandy's. In addition, last season's No. 6 national finish and the hype around Heupel are attracting a higher level of recruits to The Hill.

Re: Vandy gets 8 votes to win the East, and 5 to win the SEC
Paul Finebaum said this on a radio interview Monday about the people who voted for Vandy to win the conference... “I appreciate what Media Days is,” he said. “But when I see that, Cole, I really begin to wonder about people’s right to vote, and I know that sounds crazy because I’ve always been a bi...

Kickoff 5 weeks from today. This morning (Saturday), they laid out the north end zone carpet, with 5 guys and a couple of small machines.

Re: Vandy gets 8 votes to win the East, and 5 to win the SEC
How many media credentials did Vandymania have?
Did they let Brent cast 8 votes, given his stellar reputation?
PS: The Tennessean beat reporter weighs in: it wasn't her.

Based on the clips shown later during Finebaum's show yesterday, I thought he did a good job. He certainly has the personality for it.

Re: A couple of thoughts after a day lurking at SEC Media Days
Good question Go, but it varies with the movie. For example, I liked Coppola's secret, never-released version that had Duvall playing Sweet Caroline while approaching the village instead of Ride of the Valkyries , and rather than napalming it, winning the hearts and minds of the villagers by teachin...

Totally agree with you. He's incredible. I wish I could be that fast, thoughtful and poised on my feet. Even though he'll be wearing Auburn colors Nov. 4 at FirstBank Stadium, I intend to stand and cheer when he's introduced. He deserves it. PS, re Brent's observation No. 1: it IS a damned mess. I h...
