Re: Bat Sticker

Rehashing old news here, but starting to hear even more chatter in the league pipeline and last night's result has only made it louder. What most think UT players did to certain bats is to pop off the end cap and remove the restrictor ring. The ring inside the barrel provides rigidity and is what pr...

Re: How many have we lost to the draft...

Are you talking about players from our team drafted, or committed players drafted and opting to sign with professional teams? If it's players drafted from our team, the number is high, but it shouldn't affect our current team at all. We only expect them to be here 3 years, and only 2 if they are 19 ...

the proof is in the pudding, no? thank you, hops, for your extensive evaluations/explanations. it helps make the current dore diamond situation somewhat more understandable to some of us without your experiences and insights. i'll not make omaha reservations yet. maybe hoover...? Re: The real issue is ... ineffective recruiting

On to my point about the mid-state players. Yes, Vandy recruits nationally. They should continue to do so to an extent. But let's really think about where our program would be without Ryan Mullins and Brian Harris? Without David Price, Mike Minor, Sonny Gray, Taylor Hill and Caleb Cotham? Without To...

Re: The real issue is ... ineffective recruiting

{Quoting from the original post as this thread has wandered all over the place} Forget the reference to "slightly-known prospects in our back yard." The discussion as to whether Corbs is "filling up our classes" too early -- if it is a valid argument -- should apply to prospects...

Re: Question asked on 102.5-FM afternoon show

The umps are not allowed to make the call, even if they see it. It must be appealed by the opponent. That's why Keegan looked at the bat, and motioned for the appeal. Plus, if the bat is simply rotated, the ump is not going to see the sticker. As for the whole thing, there was a lot of chatter on SE...

Re: Chase Burns

But how do you save room if you are already over-committed because you know some are going to be lost to the draft? Sincere question. BTW, Pink Floyd said Burns was UT all the way. (I believe you not OrangeFloyd) Burns wasn't all UT. He was a small prospect playing for a very small Sumner County or...

Re: Chase Burns

As a 15u, when Vandy targets most recruits, Burns measured in via Perfect Game at 5'4 - 122 pounds. His fastball was at 73. One year later, at 16u, he was 6'2 and hit 92 at a PG showcase. That's why we are having discussions in the other thread. Filling up a class 3-4 years early is not a good strat...

Re: The real issue is ... ineffective recruiting

From what I have heard from some reliable sources, part of the problem is Corbin. I know you guys feel he hung the moon and he is a good coach but I am telling you he is not a players coach. They cannot wait to get there, then then cannot wait to leave. Look in your dugout, look at how they play......

Re: The real issue is ... ineffective recruiting

Thanks DS2001. "JWerd" is one of my favorite Vandy athletes of all time. Jeff Taylor is the only one I can think of with his level of sheer athleticism. " I'm hearing some rather interesting rumors about the confiscated bat this weekend. If true, some of the luster will come off that...

Re: The real issue is ... ineffective recruiting

Having seen the personalities that came through in last 10 years, I think Corbs is more than willing to let the boys have fun. Jared Miller and Stephen Rice could have a very successful comedy show, if they ever chose to do so. We used to be well known for our antics and weird stretching routines be...

Re: The real issue is ... ineffective recruiting

This is a terrific, eye-opening look at recruiting processes for those of us on the outside. One question not yet raised, how many of these kids would qualify academically for Vanderbilt? I don't recall hearing anywhere that Vandy has lowered standards for athletes. What I've found to be interestin...

Thanks DS2001. "JWerd" is one of my favorite Vandy athletes of all time. Jeff Taylor is the only one I can think of with his level of sheer athleticism. As for the other question, the reputation of the school depends on the kid. Most Vanderbilt recruits do not really care. They see the Van...

Re: The real issue is ... ineffective recruiting

UT has a good baseball team now. That is annoying, I agree. The rest of this thread is perfectly idiotic. I know the regional select baseball landscape like the back of my hand. Our organization has coached 7 kids that play/have played at Vandy. One is currently on the team. 6 pitchers and 1 hitter...

Re: The real issue is ... ineffective recruiting

First, I really appreciate the premise of OP, but if the early signing is the problem, why are pitchers exempt from this hypothesis? I would think that player development would be as much a problem for all skills, not just hitting. As for the comment that early signing has served us well in the pas...

Re: The real issue is ... ineffective recruiting

yeah, I guess it didn't work when we were going to the CWS 4 of the last 7 years... Last year's lineup was bad. Having the two best SPs in college baseball along with a top closer covers a lot of deficiencies. And those first two trips were before the current practices began. Today, we wouldn't get...

The real issue is ... ineffective recruiting

Nobody really wants to hear it given the level of talent we've had over the last two decades, but Corbs and company have fallen victim to bad recruiting practices. Offering Freshmen pitchers in high school is not so bad because if they can throw hard at 14 years old, they'll be throwing hard at 18 y...

Re: More playing time for Ke-Shawn Vaughn?

Hopefully he plays error free. TB looked ticked when Vaughn fell down on a targeted route late in the game. Without Brady’s confidence in him he has no chance. KV needs a breakthrough. Yep. He also dropped a swing pass early in the game that was right in his hands. Love KV, and proud he was a Dore....

Re: Who will vote NO in the SEC meeting on Texas & Oklahoma?

I've seen the pods broken out differently. Nobody really knows where it will land, But what I saw was: SEC-East - Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Kentucky SEC-North - Missouri, Arkansas, Tennessee, Vandy SEC-South - Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss, Mississippi State SEC-West - LSU, Texas, Texas A&M,...

Re: Report: Dominic Keegan

One thing to remember for both Thomas and Keegan...additional COVID eligibility. EVERYONE got an extra year of eligibility. Thus, even if they get drafted next year, they still have significant negotiating leverage, unlike seniors from previous years. In short, even next year, they can just say they...
