Re: DB Dashaun Jerkins in the portal as a grad transfer
Can you name those in the portal? I had only heard of two. My list, which may not be complete or accurate: QB Jeremy Moussa (grad transfer) WR Amir Abdur-Rahman (grad transfer) WR Cam Johnson (grad transfer) OL Tyler Steen (grad transfer) DL Alex Williams DL Terion Sugick (Arkansas State) DL Lorenz...

Re: Frustrated
We were at the game. There was not a "sea" of orange in the student section. Maybe 20 orange-clad fans, but no big group. Most of the student section had fans with dark clothes. There were a lot of UT fans there. A game Vandy should have won. Agree. On TV, there did not appear to be much ...

Re: What do you think now about bowl opt-outs?
Wouldn't it be in a college's interest to purchase insurance on key players who might opt out of a bowl, with the players being beneficiaries if injured badly enough during the season or in a bowl game to stop them from being drafted? Or something along those lines. Keep the key players happy so th...

Re: Bryce Young
Completion percentage is about the worst stat you can look at these days for a QB. For a guy like Rogers, he better be north of 70% with how little they throw the ball down the field. Same for Stroud at Ohio St. and Hooker at UT . Alabama runs a spread, but they have maintained a running game and m...

Re: How many can we take this class?
I believe we can take up to 27 freshman. The 25 plus 2 credit for early enrollees. You are allowed a portal transfer for each that leave to a maximum of 7. So theoretically we could take in 34 total. However max scholarships are 85. Taking this many would require more to be off the current roster. ...

Re: OU's QB Spencer Rattler has announced he is transferring to South Carolina next year
I'll say it now (and will eat crow if I'm wrong), but I'm not worried about this at all. I don't think this will pan out the way anyone is hoping it will. Rattler may not be a Heisman candidate at SC, but I think he is a definite upgrade at the position there, so that is a negative for Vanderbilt.

So, I'm plodding along on the OL, taking hits on every down, and the big-man-on-campus QB I'm sworn to protect is making a cool million or more and the fleet-footed, slim and trim wide receivers who attract all the cheerleaders are pulling in $800,000 and all I get is a lousy $50K....hmmm. On the p...

Re: Got to love...
I think Vanderbilt has had the misfortune of having very poor teams at the absolute worst time. There was virtually no fan attendance last year due to COVID, and if your team is not very good, it is very easy to get out of the habit of attending games. I think attendance for college sports everywher...

The size of these contracts means that the amount of dead money will likely increase in the future.

I think that he is a great coach, but he doesn't really seem like a good fit in Baton Rouge.

Re: OT: Poll: Resolved: I wish we'd never hired James Franklin
When I took my kids to the Music City Bowl in 2008, I told them to enjoy it because you didn't know when Vanderbilt would make it back to a bowl game. His three seasons were by far the best stretch of Vanderbilt football in my lifetime. There were more Vanderbilt fans at the Liberty Bowl his first y...

Re: OT: David Cutcliffe out at Duke
He had a remarkable 14-season run in Durham, with an ACC division title, but has struggled of late. It will be interesting to see what direction they turn. I could see a guy like former CJF assistant Ricky Rahne (now head coach at ODU) getting some interest. I wonder if most Vanderbilt fans would b...

Re: OT: Auburn pulls a Vandy
Georgia may have to beat Bama twice to win it all. In college football beating a good team twice in one season is typically not easy to do. I think if Alabama loses to Georgia, they are eliminated. They will have 2 losses, and their last two wins were not very convincing. I don't think you could ta...

Re: Reports: Future SEC coach Lincoln Riley to USC
Good point about the rarity of successful NFL coaches moving to the college game. The only one I can think of is Bill Walsh going back to Stanford. Even that was a few years after leaving the NFL. Jim Harbaugh and Nick Saban are recent examples. I believe Dennis Green qualifies, too. Harbaugh had 3...

Re: Don’t Badmouth the Dores today…
I am going to choose to take the optimistic view and think that Lea may be able to grow into a successful coach at Vanderbilt. It seems apparent that he isn't the slam dunk hire like Franklin was, but I did see some signs of improvement as the year progressed. The big key is convincing some differen...

Re: Reports: Future SEC coach Lincoln Riley to USC
I don't know about the money involved, but I would think one of the big factors for Riley was getting out of the SEC. It would be extremely difficult to keep having 11 win seasons at Oklahoma once they make the move, and this may be the ideal time to get out. Unless Kingsbury just hates the NFL, I c...

The play was not well covered from the start--it almost looks like there was some confusion in the defensive backfield. Re: I like Coach Lea...
Unfortunately, I think Vanderbilt's only hope right now is that Lea is a quick learner, he makes some adjustments to his staff, and he somehow builds some momentum at the end of this season to build on. There is absolutely no way that Vanderbilt can fire Lea after one season. If you fire an alum aft...

Re: the only thing….
The prevent is definitely the right call on the last play of the half, as opposed to what was done for the entire last series of the South Carolina game. As you might recall, Florida State gave up a 59-yd TD pass with 1 second left to Jacksonville State, where they had at least 9 within 10 yards of ...
