Re: Malik Dia enters the portal
I've been out of town so I'm reviving this a bit, but yes, it is up to the school to renew each season. They can also renew on a semester basis. For example, a guy redshirts and does four years. In the summer before his fifth year they can tell him, look you need to get the rest of your credits by t...

Re: Vanderbilt Education
I can tell you from experience that the type of student-athlete that Vanderbilt attracts is different from what other schools attract. Its true that not every VU player can play at other SEC schools, but from an academic perspective they can all hack it there. When you see a player choose VU over a ...

Re: Malik Dia enters the portal
Not unless the coach leave can a player leave the school. That should be the rule because it not fair to the school and us fans what about the player? Is what is fair to 'us fans' more important that what is fair to the player? I will answer the question. No, what's important to the fans is not mor...

Conference USA
I was on ESPN this morning and saw that the top three teams in Conference USA are all still playing. FAU is in the Sweet 16 (benefiting from the FDU win over Purdue) and N. Texas and UAB are in the NIT semis. Just an interesting data point.

I think it's credible/possible that he didn't know the gun was in the back seat. I DON'T find it credible that he didn't see the text until after the episode, because he was driving. That totally defies the behavior of just about everyone I know, regardless of their age, including myself. Especiall...

Re: N.Texas,Wisconsin,UAB, and Utah Valley all underdogs
I believe UAB closed as a favorite in the game last night. They were favorited by a point at tip. Not always, but that frequently means the smarter money was on UAB. If you're a favorite by a point on the road you're likely 4 points better than the team you're playing. A nitpick.

Re: Mostly OT: Oregon coach blasts Duck fans for lackluster NIT game attendance
Somebody should've gave coach a chill pill and told him to count to 10 before taking the mic. You don't make many friends calling out fans when you lose at home in the quarterfinals of the NIT.

If this was your son, would y'all be so cavalier about it? I'd be freaking the heck out trying to understand what my son was doing consorting with such characters. I wonder what Miller's parents think. I would say that the way I treat my kids and interrogate them is different from how I want the la...

Re: LOL! Joe Lunardi says VU is not in the tournament when they are 12-7 in the SEC
SEC was underrated in both men's & women's basketball! That is an understatement. It is pure bias against the South/southern teams. The rest of the country rejects southern culture. Except the bias that everyone thinks there is towards the football teams in our conference. All in the eyes of th...

Re: OT - NYT: A Fourth Alabama Player Was at a Deadly Shooting, in a Car Hit by Bullets
I don’t think bed checks are necessary. There’s a huge jump in circumstances from not being in your room to shooting a person. Also how is the fact that an Alabama basketball player murdered someone being forgotten. This isn’t totally about Brandon Miller. Brandon Miller played a role whether innoc...

Re: ESPN's David Hale, Bill Connelly advocate for relegation (and mention Vanderbilt) in Q&A piece about realignment
The NFL (and just about every other US pro sport) has found the opposite - that allowing successful teams to go on to higher and higher spending and greater dominance is detrimental to the sport and decreases fan interest everywhere except the top of the heap teams. Many sports have mechanisms to h...

Re: OT - NYT: A Fourth Alabama Player Was at a Deadly Shooting, in a Car Hit by Bullets
If bed checks happened in the past, they are definitely a thing of the distant past. No one has bed checks for players during the season. Football has them for players on the night before a game when they're in a hotel and can manage it. But if you have players off campus, in different dormitories, ...

Re: OT - NYT: A Fourth Alabama Player Was at a Deadly Shooting, in a Car Hit by Bullets
I'm really confused. It does seem like the facts of the case are that Miller didn't know the gun was there and didn't know that his teammate had requested it from him. If the Bama administration were able to get that information relatively quickly, and the kid hasn't been charged, what exactly would...

Re: ESPN's David Hale, Bill Connelly advocate for relegation (and mention Vanderbilt) in Q&A piece about realignment
I don't think relegation is a terrible idea. Its a merit based system where your performance dictates where you go and the revenue you get. Now, could it actually be executed given the sports outside of football? Very difficult. The NFL (and just about every other US pro sport) has found the opposi...

Re: Did we play like a tournament team?
You have to take accountability for what happened early in the year. And that accountability doesn't involve pointing at other teams and trying to say that we are better than them (as I personally have been guilty of doing). Real accountability is knowing that our full body of work just wasn't up t...

Gonna be interesting watching this competition develop. Whit said in the article their abilities complement each other and he looks forward to competing. PS -- I hope you folks in Southeast Tennessee realize how good it is to still have a functioning newspaper, and Hargis covering sports. His being...

Out. And we’ll be really disappointed with who gets in ahead of us.
